WITH THE "CAN DO" SPIRIT—WE DID IT!
On Saturday, September 24th, Closet Trends' Jacque Yeager and Scott Hotchkiss participated in a creative community project called CANSTRUCTION. Sponsored by the local AIA (American Institute of Architects), five different five-man teams competed at Park Mall, creating Tucson-related sculptures built out of cans of food. Our team, "Go Big or Go Home", built a replica of the San Xavier Mission using approximately 3000 food cans & jars, which were ultimately then donated to the Tucson Community Food Bank. We had so much fun "canstructing" the Mission, topping it with our final touch of two crosses made out of Slim Jim sausages! We are very proud to announce that our Mission took top honors winning 1st Place (Juror's Favorite) and People's Choice (mall patrons' votes). Our team architect, Paul Mickelberg (WSM Architects), and team leader, Lisa Moore (Fractured Earth), did a superb job planning and coordinating our project. What a great experience working with the whole team, which also included Joel Chen (IBM) and Mercedes Flores & Scott Koteles (Vanguard Concept Offices). A big "thank you" goes out to all who made donations to our Canstruction cause. |
